October 25th: The San Francisco Queer Open Mic featuring FRANNY CHOI and ENTIRELY TALIA

Its October! And I for one am incredibly happy it is here, cause man who doesn’t love candy, and who doesn’t love Halloween?! But you know what we love more? – THE SAN FRANCISCO QUEER OPEN MIC!!

Last month’s show went so well, so many folks signed up, we squeezed in about 18 into the show and the feature read to us from his sexy gay vampire book, we didn’t have the lovely Blythe Baldwin with us, but Nick Chin was able to take her spot for the night and he roooocked! Always happy to have him at the show, we hope he considers us one of his homes, he is always welcome. Always.

Now for this month! October is going to be very special, one because we have a poetry feature that I’m very very very excited about! She is a national sensation and a recent winner of the coveted Write Bloody National Contest so her book is going to come out next year, and I cannot wait. She’s been on slam stages all over the country and is one of the most exciting spoken word artists I know, FRANNY CHOI, knows what is up, and she is going to tell us all about it.

But that is not all! This month we have a musical guest! A long time regular, she was supposed to feature later in the year, but just found out she is moving, so I could not, not, not, let her go, without having her feature with  us and wow us one last time, we have the awesome treat to get to listen to a whole set of ENTIRELY TALIA’S music. YAY!!!

so, remember folks

A Pushcart Prize nominee and award-winning performer, she has been a finalist at the three largest adult slam competitions in the nation. Her work has appeared in Fringe, Angry Asian Man, Apogee, Tandem, Issues, and others. Her play Mask Dances was staged in the 2011 Writing is Live Festival at Rites and Reason Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island. Her first full-length collection of poems is forthcoming on Write Bloody Publishing.

ENTIRELY TALIA, aka Talia Cooper, is a singer/songwriter who has performed all over the San Francisco Bay Area. She first wowed us with her amazing song, Pacifist Fascist some years back and we fell in love with her every single time she came back to the show. When she is not playing music she is the Director of Jewish Youth for Community Action (www.jyca-justice.org) where she has the privilege of working with high school activists. In addition to her own music, Talia sings with the internationally renowned Jewish women’s acapella group Vocolot (www.vocolot.com).
